Is anyone else having trouble with the the new 72s, we have 2, one less than a year old and one nearly a year old. One has been back to the shop for a new carb, that was on back order, and just yesterday 6 trees away from finishing the job the newest one made a loud bang and lost compression.

I have one, so far its been a nice saw. I did have to radically change the mixture to make it run well. It was really lean from the factory.

This fall we cut together again and his ran well for about one tank of fuel and then seemed to lose some power, so much in fact that I put the back in the truck and got my dad's old out and easily kept up to him in a 15 inch Ash.

I advised him to either adjust the carb or take it back to the dealer. He chose the latter, as he didn't want to fiddle with it while it was under warranty, and he still hasn't picked it up.

I really was impressed with it the first time we cut. We always run 87 octane in our saws mixedhasnt been a problem for years now. And as far as the tuning goes there is very little adjustment of the air screws, our dealer always "tunes" them when we buy them. They just dont seem to run quite like the 's would, or last, im back to cutting with the spare Lumberjack,I should not say anything,but I ran the best stuff,91 or 93 octane, that I can buy at a local gas station,all the added stuff that is put into it too.

I have a wood splitter,2 saws, cheapy lawnmowers,a trimmer and a tiller. I do not add anything to my fuel,except for oil mix, and have no problems at all. Most of my stuff is pushing 10 years old. Trimmer is years old,one saw is only 2 years old,lawn mowers,no idea. They was given to me.

Local Time: PM. This is a new with a oem big bore ported and installed on it. It also has a boot fitted with the RWJ carb and unlimited oem coil. The saw runs really well. I ran this saw this weekend. It is crazy strong and fast. Very impressive. HinermanDec 25, Moparmywaymoparnut88 and Dub11 like this. That oem big bore kit means this saw is like the OE xpw, just to let people know, it is no longer an xtorq version.

This is a very good price. BonScott46Dec 26, It takes a little work to get the boot on the cylinder. I smear the intake spigot with epoxy and let it semi-harden, then slide the boot over and let it finish harden.

I then grind all epoxy and spigot out to match the boot and reinstall clamp. Port timing numbers on this one are: EXIN 78, and trans This saw still is working on its first tank of fuel.

I finally got to put two tanks thru this saw this afternoon.The Jonsered CS carburetor is designed to take gasoline [liquid state] and atomize the fuel with air in the proper proportion to power the chain saw motor. If the carburetor gets damaged, gummed up, or contaminated with water causing white rust [white powder substance], the Jonsered CS carburetor will need to be replaced. The Jonsered CS carburetor has two different sides.

First, the fuel pump side of the carburetor pumps fuel from the fuel tank through the fuel line to the metering side of the carburetor. Second, the metering side of the carburetor supplies fuel to the jets in the carburetor so the saw idles properly. Additionally, this side allows the saw to accelerate to full throttle instantly when the throttle is activated [pulled].

Finally, this side maintains fuel to the chain saw motor at full throttle regardless of the position of the saw. The carburetor has diaphragms and gaskets to help it pump and meter the fuel by crankcase impulse.

Every time the piston goes up and down, it creates vacuum and pressure in the crankcase. The Jonsered CS carburetor uses this pulse via a pulse line connected to the crankcase or through the carburetor intake to get the pulse needed to properly make the carburetor function. On the metering lever side of the Jonsered CS carburetor, there is a diaphragm and gasket with a cover plate screwed to the carburetor.

The metering diaphragm controls the amount of fuel allowed to enter the metering lever side of the carburetor. The diaphragm is either connected or just touching the fulcrum [meter lever] and when fuel exits the metering side of the carburetor through the jets in the carburetor, atmosphere pressure [ As the fuel rises to fill the metering lever side of the carburetor, the inlet needle valve closes the fuel off from the fuel pump side of the carburetor.

The needle valve goes into the body of the Jonsered CS carburetor and is fastened to the metering lever fulcrum which has a spring under the opposite side of the needle valve to keep pressure on the needle valve when closed.

On the metering lever side of the Jonsered CS chainsaw carburetor there are two sides, a low side and a high side. The low side controls idle and acceleration when the saw starts to rev up. The high side controls the amount of fuel the saw will receive at full RPM. Some carburetors will have 2 adjusting screws, one for the low side and one for the high side.

There is also an idle screw which makes contact with the throttle shaft to control idle speed along with the low side of the carburetor. Note that some chainsaw model carburetors have just one adjusting screw and the other side is prefixed and non-adjustable.
